China welcomes international students from around the world. China's universities have a variety of programs to meet the different demands of international students. However, some programs have strict academic requirements for admission. Outlined below are the possible routes for studying in China.
This standard varies depending on the school's requirements, usually based on HSK exam results or entrance exams. You can apply for non-degree Chinese language and culture courses and almost any of the undergraduate degree programs at China's universities. There are some Chinese-taught programs where you would have to attend classes with Chinese students. The tuition fees for undergraduate programs taught in Chinese are usually 1500-4500 U.S. dollars a year.
You can choose to attend a non-degree Chinese language program, as well as an English-medium Master's degree program(tuition is about 4500 U.S. dollars to 8500 U.S. dollars per year).
You can apply for non-degree Chinese language courses and Master's degree programs at Chinese universities (tuition fees cost 3500 U.S. dollars to 4500 U.S. dollars per year). Most schools will arrange foreign students to attend class together with the Chinese students.
Basically, you can choose any type of program offered by China's universities, including non-degree language and culture programs and doctoral degree programs. Most Chinese universities' doctorate degrees can be taught in English. Please take note that when applying for a doctoral degree, you usually have to include English proficiency test results, transcripts, letters of recommendation and other entry requirements, please take a look at the entry requirements for each major. PHD candidates normally are requested to take an interview. Tuition usually cost 3,000 to 6000 U.S. dollars per year.
Some of China's universities accept applicants with any education background for their Chinese language courses. You can also choose to learn Chinese at a language school. China's major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities have special language schools to teach foreign students Chinese language and Chinese culture. These schools generally do not have educational level or age restrictions. If you are under 18 years old, you need to submit a letter of consent from your guardian.
